New Year’s Baby

An Irvington family has the honor of welcoming the 2013 New Year’s Baby at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.

Boden Bradley Goewey, son of Brad and Mindy Goewey of Irvington, arrived at 8:02 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, weighing 9 pounds, 7 ounces and being 21 inches long. He will be welcomed home by big brother Archie, 3-1/2 years old.

Originally from the Pittsfield area, in Pike County between Springfield, Ill., and Hannibal, Mo., the Goeweys’ relocation to Irvington was job related. Brad is a football and basketball coach and teacher at Centralia High School where Mindy is a secretary.

Remaining in the Pittsfield area are the grandparents of the First Arrival, Garry and Chris Browning and Kevin and Bev Goewey. (more…)

New Year’s Eve and Day Hours

A few departments at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese will have limited hours or be closed New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Priority Care

Priority Care, at 14505 State Route 127 North between Carlyle Wal-Mart and Dollar General, will be open regular hours, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., except New Year’s Day when hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The hospital-sponsored facility provides high quality, cost effective walk-in care for all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics. Although prepared to offer a wide range of medical care, anyone with a severe medical condition should call 911 or visit the nearest Emergency Room.

The facility is staffed with physicians from the same group that provides care in the hospital’s Emergency Room, plus hospital Laboratory and Medical Imaging staff.

Many of the services are covered by insurance but anyone using the facility should be aware that urgent care centers such as Priority Care are in a different category than a physician’s office or Emergency Room and higher co-pays may be required.

To contact Priority Care, call 594-4949.

HealthPlex

For that last-minute exercise session, the St. Joseph-Breese HealthPlex will be open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. New Year’s Eve and closed New Year’s Day. Regular hours, from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday  and closed Sundays, will be in effect all other days

Holiday Hours for Priority Care, HealthPlex & Outpatient Center

St. Joseph’s in Breese is always there to serve the community, round-the-clock, seven days a week. However, a few departments have limited hours or are closed Christmas and New Year’s Eve and Day.

Priority Care

Priority Care, at 14505 State Route 127 North between Carlyle Wal-Mart and Dollar General, will be open regular hours, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., every day except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day when hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The hospital-sponsored facility provides high quality, cost effective walk-in care for all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics. Although prepared to offer a wide range of medical care, anyone with a severe medical condition should call 911 or visit the nearest Emergency Room.

Priority Care opened in 2010, broke ground for a permanent structure in 2011 and moved into the new building in 2012. The building also houses a primary care physician’s office where internal medicine specialist Alberto Butalid, MD, a member of the St. Joseph-Breese medical staff and HSHS Medical Group, now sees private patients.

The facility is staffed with physicians from the same group that provides care in the hospital’s Emergency Room, plus hospital Laboratory and Medical Imaging staff. The Friends of St. Joseph’s in Breese underwrote the estimated $95,000 in X-ray equipment so that service could be provided at that location.

Many of the services are covered by insurance but anyone using the facility should be aware that urgent care centers such as Priority Care are in a different category than a physician’s office or Emergency Room and higher co-pays may be required.

To contact Priority Care, call 594-4949.

St. Joseph’s Food Service Staff

Members of the St. Joseph-Breese Food Service staff say thanks to Resource General Manager Bruce Newsmaster of Sodexo for serving as interim department director. At the presentation were (standing, from left) Manager Marilyn Schulte of Breese, Chris Bauer of Breese, Leona Thole of St. Rose, Diane Korte of Albers, Dawn Swinney of New Memphis, Mary Linnemann of Germantown, Mary Nicklin of Aviston, Brian Schaeffer of Pocahontas, Paulette Templin of Albers, Zita Reeves of Mulberry Grove and Deb Lanter of Breese. Food Service colleagues are wearing their new uniforms of black pants, black and white or red department shirts and striped aprons. The new attire is only one of several changes the department has made the past six months. Others include new menu items and a new inpatient meal delivery system called At Your Request or AYR whereby patients can order by telephone a specific meal off the menu for delivery any time dietary staff are present.
