Massage Therapy Gift Certificates for Easter

The Easter Bunny has a new option this year—a massage therapy gift certificate from the St. Joseph-Breese HealthPlex.

“How nice it would be to find the gift of relaxation in your Easter basket this spring,” said Lynn Rinella, director of the hospital’s Physical Therapy Department which coordinates the service. “There’s no worry about size or color or wondering if someone is avoiding sweets.”

Massage therapy can benefit just about anybody although limited to those 18 years old and over, Rinella said. A physician’s order is not required except during pregnancy.

“Anyone who lives in today’s fast-paced society, has too much to do, not enough time, family responsibilities or financial worries—and that describes just about everyone—can benefit,” Rinella said. “It’s a great stress reliever and research has shown it to lower heart rate and blood pressure, increase circulation, improve range of motion, relax muscles and increase endorphins—those natural chemicals that help you feel better.”   Megan Korte of Carlyle, a physical therapist assistant at St. Joseph’s in Breese since graduating from Kaskaskia College in 2007, is the massage therapist.

Korte returned to KC in 2009 to complete the year-long massage therapy program and is now a licensed massage therapist. She also has training in migraine and headache relief.

Massage therapy is offered in a renovated physical therapy room at the HealthPlex. A table warmer, different oils, adjustable lighting and CD player are available.

Gift certificates for $30 or $60 are available for 30 or 60 minutes; cash, check or credit cards are accepted.

“We have a table warmer so it’s more comfortable and we offer different types of oils,” Korte said. Lights can be adjusted and a CD player is available to play anything from relaxing instrumentals to the sounds of flowing water.

Gift certificates are available at $30 or $60 for 30 or 60 minutes; cash, check or credit cards will be accepted. A physician’s order is not required except during pregnancy.
