The Women and Infants Center at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese will offer a slate of eight different classes this spring.
Scheduled are a one-day Prepared Childbirth class at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 3, a three-week Prepared Childbirth course at 7 p.m. Tuesdays, April 17, April 24 and May 1, and a Prepared Childbirth Refresher at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15. All will be held in the hospital Heritage Room.
Sessions provide information to decrease anxiety and fears. Topics include relaxation, comfort measures, variations of normal labor and delivery, Caesarean births, risks and benefits of medication.
Also offered will be Breastfeeding at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 8; Sibling from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 10; and Know Your Newborn at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 15.
Breastfeeding is for parents who are considering or have decided to breastfeed; sibling is for children three to 10 years old expecting a new brother or sister within the next two months; and Know Your Newborn is for moms- and dads-to-be.
In conjunction with WIC, Community Link’s First Step Program in Breese will offer “Happiest Baby” from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, March 12, and “Happiest Toddler” from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, April 9, at the hospital HealthPlex. Classes are provided with funding from the United Way of Greater St. Louis.
“Happiest Toddler” is for moms and dads with children one to four years old; “Happiest Baby” is for new or expectant parents. Sessions are also open to anyone caring for infants or toddlers including day care providers.
In addition, tours of the newly renovated Women and Infants Center are also available.
The project, which was completed in January, included new services and amenities, upgraded mechanical details and a more contemporary, spa-like environment. Of special interest has been the addition of a labor tub as well as a new water feature at the WIC entrance—part of the new décor and color palette.
